All faculty members of the College actively respond to the call of the Party, relying on the resource endowment of southwest China and the characteristics of agricultural biodiversity disciplines, and innovate a new model of scientific and technological poverty alleviation for the poor areas.

        First, we encourage teachers to join the main battlefield of poverty alleviation and formed a team of academicians and experts to carry out scientific and technological poverty alleviation in villages. Secondly, we fully exploit the advantages of natural resources in poor border areas, develop organic Chinese herbal medicine industry in mountainous areas, and turn "green water and green mountains" into "golden mountains"; develop winter special fruits and vegetables in river valley areas, and turn winter idle field" into "rich field". Third, the construction of "science and technology + enterprises + cooperatives + farmers" model of science and technology to alleviate poverty.

        In the past five years, by the means of science and technology, many remarkable achievements of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization special industries have been made, such as winter potatoes, organic panax pseudoginseng under the forest, winter early vegetables, early grapes, etc. The excellent thesis has been engraved on farmland, which helped Lancang, Huize, Jianchuan, Yao'an, Nanhua and other national poverty-stricken counties to get rid of poverty. The innovation and contribution of science and technology to poverty alleviation have been highly recognized by whole society. In December 2019, General Secretary Xi Jinping gave instructions and the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee awarded academician Zhu Youyong, the leader of the discipline, the title of "Model of the Times".
