The College focuses on the major needs of poverty alleviation of "straight through ethnic groups" in the areas of the border, with emphasis on solving the problem of the lack of applied talents in poverty alleviation and wisdom support. Since 2016, the College has established training classes for poverty alleviation based on the academician workstations built in the grassroots villagers' groups, with the classroom located in the field, integrated the lesson into the practical operation, connected the achievement of students with the implementation of field work. By the means of hand-on teaching and face to face learning, in the past five years, we have trained 36 classes of 2160 local talents of "straight through ethnicity", such as forest panax pseudo-ginseng, traditional Chinese medicine resources and winter potatoes. After these trainees finished their studies and returned to their hometowns, all of them got rid of poverty, 50% of them helped their families and relatives out of poverty, and 10% of them helped the whole village out of poverty. These local talents have not only made contribution to poverty eradication, but also became hard core for rural revitalization in poor areas.

Party publications and various media such as "Seeking truth", "People's Daily", "Guangming Daily", "Newswire", "Focus Interview", "China Education News", "People's Network", "Xinhua Network", etc. have reported the deeds and cases of the discipline "writing papers on the earth, cultivating applied talents, and helping to fight poverty" for many times. The social service experience of the discipline in poverty alleviation has been promoted and applied nationwide.
