The College actively integrates into the agricultural cooperation of the national "One Belt and One Road" initiative, relying on the advantages of the discipline of biodiversity ecological prevention and control of pests and diseases, and carries out technical services and personnel training for ASEAN countries. Relying on the "Yanshan Southeast Asia Maize Research Institute", we have conducted technical services for the selection and breeding of new high-yielding and highly resistant maize varieties with more than 30 research units and enterprises in 9 ASEAN countries, validated 23 new maize varieties in Myanmar, Laos, Indonesia and other countries, built 15 new variety demonstration bases, and trained a national maize breeding team in Myanmar. Relying on the technical advantages of biodiversity ecological control of pests and diseases, we have established 16 "vegetable variety diversity and green plant protection technology demonstration gardens" in Myanmar, Laos and Yunnan border areas, carried out technical training services, and trained more than 600 technicians from ASEAN countries. Relying on the "China-ASEAN Education and Training Center", a series of international training courses on "Agricultural Biodiversity Control of Pests and Diseases" have been held, and 341 plant protection experts have been trained for 10 ASEAN countries, providing a professional talent base for the promotion and application of biodiversity control and pest control technology in ASEAN countries. The social services of the Department for ASEAN have been fully recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the main leaders of Laos and Myanmar and the foreign ministers of ten ASEAN countries have visited the demonstration base of the Department for many times.
The large-scale application of our college's agricultural biodiversity control pest technology has become a successful example of international biodiversity utilization. Based on more than 20 years of cooperation with the French Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Sino-French International Joint Laboratory was established in 2019 at the 14th session of the Sino-French Joint Commission on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, witnessed by the Chinese and French Ministers of Science and Technology, with the theme of sustainable control of biodiversity and pests. The joint laboratory will provide a platform for research and development and successful examples for international counterparts on the theme of sustainable control of biodiversity and pests.
