The Department of Plant Quarantine of Yunnan Agricultural University was established in 2003 from the excellent faculty of Plant Protection，based on Key Laboratory of Agricultural Biodiversity and Disease Control of the Ministry of Education", "Key Laboratory of Plant Pathology of Yunnan Province", "Research and Training Center for Potato Crops in Southeast Asia", "Research and Training Center for Potato Crops in Yunnan Province", "Key Laboratory of Plant Pathology of Yunnan Province", and "Key Laboratory of Plant Pathology of Yunnan Province". Yunnan Province", "Yunnan Province crop resistance identification station", "Yunnan Province biodiversity and biotechnology innovation talent training base" and plant protection field academician workstation, teaching master studio and other teaching and research platforms, in 2005 began to recruit plant and animal quarantine major （In 2005, we started to recruit undergraduates in plant and animal quarantine (plant quarantine direction), and we have the doctoral and master's degrees in invasion biology.

There are 22 full-time faculty members in the Department of Plant Quarantine, 7 are professors and 10 are associate professors. The percentage of teachers with doctoral degree is 76%, and the percentage of young teachers under 45 years old is 52%. The Department of Plant Quarantine has taken the lead in establishing the "Provincial Innovation Team for Sustainable Control of Agricultural Invasive Alien Organisms", "Science and Technology Innovation Team of Plant Quarantine in Yunnan University", "Science and Technology Innovation Team of Important Pathogens of Economic Crops in Yunnan University" and "Science and Technology Innovation Team of Plant Quarantine in Yunnan University". The team also participated in the construction of national and provincial teaching teams - national innovation team of agricultural biodiversity utilization and conservation, Yunnan provincial innovation team of agricultural biodiversity, national teaching team of plant protection and Huang Danian type teaching team. Among the faculty members, there are 4 academic and technical leaders in Yunnan Province, 1 person from the Thousand Talents Program, 1 young "top talent", 1 outstanding young teacher in higher education and 1 teacher moral standard. There are 5 doctoral supervisors and 12 master's supervisors.

      The Department of Plant Quarantine has established extensive ties with domestic and foreign universities and research institutions over the years to carry out personnel training and scientific research cooperation in monitoring and early warning of invasive pests, pest risk analysis, and utilization and sustainable control of invasive pests. Among the faculty, 4 have obtained master's degrees or above from foreign universities and 12 have overseas study experience. In the past five years, the faculty of the Department of Quarantine has undertaken more than 50 research projects of various kinds, with research funding of nearly 30 million yuan; published more than 200 academic papers and written more than 10 textbooks and monographs. The number of students in school is maintained at about 260, and more than 600 qualified plant quarantine professionals have been delivered to the province and abroad in the past ten years. Some of the graduates have become high-level talents such as "Thousand Talents Plan" and made important contributions to the construction of "One Belt and One Road" and southwest ecological barrier and regional economic development.
