The Key Laboratory of Agricultural Biodiversity and Pest Control of the Ministry of Education was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2002 and put into operation in July of that year. The laboratory focuses on the overall goal of biodiversity for food security and sustainable agricultural development, based on Yunnan's resource advantages and regional advantages, facing the actual diversity of agricultural biodiversity resources and production methods in China, focusing on the major scientific problems of agricultural biodiversity conservation and utilization, systematically carrying out basic and  applied research on the use of agricultural biodiversity to control pests and diseases for crop resource conservation, and maintain our international leadership in this field. It will provide technical support to promote high-quality development of agriculture, accelerate the development and growth of rural industries, and promote poverty alleviation, and play an active role in promoting the construction of "One Belt and One Road" and constructing the ecological security barrier in the southwest border of China.

Research Direction

Positioned in Yunnan as the center of international biodiversity, as well as relying on the abundant resources of plant and animal species, geographic and climate diversity, the Laboratory makes systematic research on agricultural biodiversity and pest control in the directions of both protection and utilization of local resources. From the three levels of genetic diversity, species diversity and habitat diversity to deeply analyze the biodiversity control principle of crops diseases and insect pests, research and development and utilization activities are also carried out by using key biodiversity technology to control crops diseases and insect pests, thus realizing agricultural biodiversity protection and utilization of resources, and promoting the quality of Chinese agriculture and sustainable development, that has irreplaceable location advantages and distinctive characteristics.
